Nelson has some wonderful events planned this Christmas Season. Here is a snap shot of what’s on offer:

Carols by candlelight at Washbourn Gardens

Sun 17 December from 6.30pm at the top of Trafalgar Street / Entry is free. With pre show entertainment starting at 6.30pm and the main event at 8pm, why not bring a picnic and get settled in. Candles will be available for purchase for a gold coin donation. Enjoy all your Christmas favourites and get into the festive season with song.

Richmond Market Day

Fri 29 December from 9am – 4pm / Entry is free. Richmond businesses literally open their doors and bring a selection of favourites and specials out onto the streets for you. Market stallholders from all over the country will be joining in. With plenty of activities including face painting, bouncy castles and magicians its a great day out for the whole family.

New Year’s Eve Countdown

Sunday the 31 December from 8pm – 12.30am held at upper Trafalgar Street / Entry is free. Local restaurants will be open during the event (book a table to avoid disappointment) and a great selection food stalls throughout the night too. Get your groove on and dance the year away.

Summer Movies Al Fresco

Tue 2 to Sun 21 January from 9pm – 11pm (Not on Monday’s) / Entry is $2 Adult / $1 Child. This year’s movies feature The wizard of Oz, Rebecca, The court jester and La Grande Vadrouille, Bride of Frankenstein, Bicycle thieves and It’s a wonderful life. Out of the Blue

Sat 6 January from 1pm – 10pm / Tickets from $55 – $149 + booking fee. A full day long music festival like no other. Your welcome to bring your own food, drink and deck chair, no glass please and no alcohol. There is plenty of opportunity to buy food and drink at the event. A fun festival for the whole family.

Teddy Bear’s Picnic

Sun 14 January from 11am – 1.30pm at Isel Park / Entry is free.  Bring your favourite teddy bear or 4, picnic and rug for a great lunch time event. All bears welcome.

Nelson Buskers Festival

Thu 1 – Sun 4 February held at various city central locations / Entry from a donation – $37.50.  The top of Trafalgar street will be teaming with buskers from the 1-3 February, all for a small donation in appreciation of their skills and entertainment. For the more adventurous, an R18 show will be held at the Boathouse in the evening on the 1-2 February. The evenings of the 3-4 February see them at the Church steps for more antics and laughs. All street performances are family friendly. Ticket Sales Available.

Nelson Wine and Food Festival

Sun 18 February from 11am – 5pm at Middle Earth Winery / Tickets from $20 – $25. A great to chance to sample all the wonderful local wines and food on offer. Music and entertainment are a key focus too, plenty of beats to get you on your feet and dancing. Plenty of car parking and a family friendly event with lots of activities for the little ones.

Opera in the Park

Sat 24 February from 7.30pm – 10pm at Saxton cricket Oval / Tickets from $5 – $25, children under 5 are free. This year’s star studded line-up features Anna Leese, Simon O’Neill, Big Runga and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. Bring a picnic, rug, torch and make a night of it. Food stalls available. Enjoy the fabulous fireworks display.

Marchfest

Sat 24 March from 12pm – 9.30pm at Founders Heritage Park / Tickets from $35 – $45. Great live music and brilliant beers, all the beers at Marchfest have been specially brewed for the event and never previously been tasted by the public. Lots of food and fun on offer too.
