We are so very spoilt to live in Nelson, especially in summer. Not only are we surrounded by a plethora of natural outdoor wonders, but plenty of treasured events too. Many we’ve all heard about and talked about – but how many have you actually been too? I know I have many on the list to do one day… So why not make more of an effort this summer to get out and about enjoying what our region puts on for us. Instead of the barbecue ritual with friends, lets invite them to an event we can share together, perhaps a picnic at an alfresco movie, Shakespeare play, or backyard cricket tournament; probably cheaper and less hassle too!
Events and Festivals bring a number of benefits to our community, but primarily they are about community pride, fundraising and even boosting physical activity. What fantastic reasons to leave the excuses behind and really embrace these offerings, as they really can be invigorating. When people outside of the region hear you live in Nelson, they usually look at you with envy. So, let’s give them even more reason to, by ensuring these events are fully supported and Nelson continues to be an outstanding region to live in.
Here are some of my picks coming up this summer. I’m particularly looking forward to the Mountain Bike Fun at Kaiteriteri and if I’m lucky some cricket with the Black Caps!
