The town of Richmond is a rapidly expanding area in the Nelson Region, and is a major service centre for the farms, vineyards and orchards of the Waimea Plains.  Pip fruit and berries are grown here, as well as hops for the beer industry.  The nearby Richmond Ranges are a great place for hiking and mountain biking and is a great location for discovering wineries, art galleries, beautiful river valley and horse treks.

Richmond has a comprehensive shopping area which includes the Richmond Mall.  Offering 60 specialty stores, a Fresh Choice, Pak ‘n’ Save and Farmers Department Store, the Richmond Mall is the largest shopping experience under one roof in the Top of the South.  Also, parking is free in Richmond!

There are a number of schools in the area including Waimea and Garin Colleges, St Paul’s School, Waimea Intermediate and Richmond School.  The ASB Aquatic Centre is centrally located and their facilities include a Fitness Centre, Swim School, Swimming Club activities, after school Programmes and  Poolside Cafe which is ideal for hosting children’s birthday parties.

Washbourn Gardens is a gem in the heart of Richmond and is the ideal setting for a peaceful picnic lunch.  The beautiful Fuschia House is situated within the garden surrounds and is delightful to visit.  The gardens also play host to a myriad of functions throughout the year including Carols at Christmas, Jazz in January and the Washbourn Gardens Fair in February.  For those planning their wedding, the picturesque surrounds are perfect as a ceremony venue amidst a superb backdrop for the optimal wedding photographer.

Also located in Richmond is Oakwoods Retirement Village and the Richmond Showgrounds, which holds the annual A & P Show and Harness Racing Meetings.

The Grape Escape and Seifrieds Estates are superbly located cafe’s and wedding venues, and Eyebright is one of Nelson’s iconic country stores.  At Christmas time, the store is magically transformed into a captivating wonderland filled with Christmas Trees and decorations.
