Known to the locals at Tahuna, this beautiful beach is the perfect spot for relaxing, swimming and of course sandcastle building. With so much more on offer, here is a snap shot of other places of interest to visit at the beach.

Lions Playground – This playground is every child dream! It starts at the entrance way with a tiny tot’s area, swings with safety clips and small ride style toys for the younger family members. It has an auto lock gate to keep small ones on the right side of the fence. Next to this is the new and improved toddlers play area with a castle for adventure and seats for Mum and Dad. Swings, rocket ships and merry go rounds are next to the basketball court. Most days you can find Mr Whippy and a coffee cart there for your enjoyment. Lots of seating available and restrooms right at the park. You have access to the beach along the whole playground with lots tracks for exploring.

Natureland – Only closed on Christmas day this family friendly Zoo is a great place to visit your animal pals. The Zoo is fully fenced so little ones are free to explore safely. You can buy a bag of food to feed your new friends and they offer great family discount options or year memberships (5 visits and it paid for itself). Birthday parties are popular option as they can take care of the details to make it super easy and have an awesome playground in the centre of the park.

Nelson Fun Park – This is a great spot to unwind and have some fun. Challenge your friends and family on the bumper boats. The hydrolside has several different speeds so you can enjoy a slow ride with the young ones or something a little more faced paced through those twists and turns. Mini golf is always a hit and this course is sure to please. Combo deals are available if you want to try everything, and why wouldn’t you?

Pro Karts, Pro Bounce and Pro combat laser tag – Adventure for all ages 3 and above. NZ’s fastest pro karts, fun karts and two-seater karts so you 3-8 year old can come and enjoy the adrenaline ride too. They can cater for large groups and have fantastic racing packages.

Pro bounce is an amazing trampoline park offering a variety of prices to suit all age groups and session times. Laser tag is fast paced, exciting and pain free. No paintball’s and no mess. They can offer session times for all age groups and ability’s for you to join in or come with a group and find out who your friends really are. Bookings for all options are recommended to avoid disappointment.

The Beach Cafe – After all your adventures you must be hungry, head into the Beach Cafe for a spot of lunch or snack. They have a wonderful drinks selection, beautiful cabinet options and a delicious menu. Conveniently located next to a playground why not grab a coffee and muffin and watch the kids burn off some energy.

Tahunanui skating rink – Public skating is available on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Full skate hire is available on site as well as a snacks bar. This is also the home of artistic skating, inline hockey, roller derby and speed skating, lots of clubs for you to join and partake in the fun. They also offer ‘learn to skate’ classes for those just starting out or wanting to fine tune their skills.

Nelson society of modellers, railway and pond – This fantastic railway is open every Sunday from 1pm-4pm (most public holidays too) and is only $1 per a ride with children under 2 being free. There are two tracks to choose from and several different engines running most weekends. Inside the club rooms is a beautiful display of model trains running their tracks and plenty of information to satisfy train enthusiasts. The pond is great if you have your own boat or model yacht to sail, please note this is a tidal area, check when high tide is to avoid disappointment.

Tahunanui outdoor fitness area – This little gem is next to one of the main car parks and all 12 stations are totally FREE thanks to the hard work of the Lions Club and a grant from the Nelson City Council’s Physical Activity Committee. Only a two minute walk to the beach for a well earned swim after your work out.

Tennis and petanque courts – First in first served, supply your own rackets, tennis balls, petanque set and friends.

If you have a furry friend who enjoys a walk on the beach also, there is a designated dog walking area at the far end of the beach.

There really is something for everyone at Tahunanui Beach!
