Mapua

Mapua is a small town in the South Island of New Zealand. It is to the west of Nelson on State Highway 60 and on the coastline of Tasman Bay.

Located approximately 30 minutes from the heart of Nelson City, is the small seaside town of Mapua.

The newly completed Mapua Wharf Development includes a delightful array of retailers including the JellyFish Bar and Cafe, The Apple Shed Cafe, a coffee roaster, an architecture firm and a local produce retailer.  There are also various art studios and galleries.

If riding The Cycle Trail, you can catch the Mapua Ferry which will bring you across the water to Mapua. There are also bike hire businesses operating from Mapua Wharf offering bike hire for those wishing to ride Tasman’s Great Taste Trail.  Tailor made tours are also available.

Mapua township is the perfect mix of classic kiwiana and gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy beautiful quality shops and restaurants.  The township also incorporates a Community Hall, Petrol Station, 4 Square Supermarket, Fire Station and a School, and holds the Mapua Makers Market three times a year.  This is a fabulous indoor crafts market which showcases quality and contemporary crafts made by talented local makers.

There are many accommodations on offer in this beautiful part of NZ, ranging from campsites to upmarket holiday homes.  The ideal family camping location is the Mapua Leisure Park, which has excellent recreational, camping and accommodation facilities catering for all age groups.  There is also a beachside Cafe and Bar situated within the Leisure Park.

For the sports or recreation enthusiast, there are a number of Parks, Reserves and children’s playgrounds around the Mapua area.  The Mapua Recreation Reserve Sportsground is located on Aranui Road, Mapua’s main street, and can be abuzz with various sporting activities on a Saturday morning.

Mapua also hosts the annual Mapua Easter Fair – Mapua School’s major fundraising event of the year.  Held annually on Easter Sunday, this event draws thousands of people to an enjoyable, family centred and fun day out for everyone.
